In Korean, ‘GAEBI’ means ‘a piece of split wood’ or ‘to renovate what already exists’.Our aim is to provide our customers with products of higher quality,100% handmade and coming from organic productions; Something they can keep for a long time.
We are two Korean designers who moved to Luang Prabang, Laos, where we got inspired by local traditions and by the country’s natural beauties.Since we moved here we have been searching for ways to combine traditional artisanal skills with the demands of modern markets. At the same time, we wanted to concretely help remote villages to find other economic opportunities for their lives. With ‘GAEBI’ we have been able to provide jobs and to sustain local productions of organic cotton, of bamboo crafts and fabric’s natural dyeing. We believe that this is the way to provide sustainable development. Together with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) and the Luang Prabang Handicrafts Association Project, both supported by the European Union, we created new products, developed training materials, and designed new brands.
